Boxing Day – Scarborough 2025
Boxing Day in Scarborough followed its long‑standing route from the town centre down to the seafront, with crowds braving the cold to watch the Fishermen vs Firemen football match on South Bay before gathering at the harbour for the chaotic, fancy‑dress raft race, all wrapped in that classic seaside winter atmosphere that makes this day such a unique local tradition.
After the final whistle, I stopped for an ice cream before continuing along the seafront. A chocolate Neapolitan from the Harbour Bar.
From the harbour, I walked along towards the Spa in cold winter sunshine. The light was low and clear, typical of late December on the Yorkshire coast, and the crowds gradually thinned out as the afternoon went on.
